Located in Auchay-sur-Vendée, in the heart of the Vendée countryside and on the outskirts of the Poitevin Marshes, the Gîte de la Prairie is an ideal starting point for numerous walks and cycle routes. Set amidst lush green countryside, the region offers a wide range of routes suitable for all levels.

Walking routes accessible from the holiday cottage

There are several walking routes, just a few minutes’ walk from the holiday cottage, which allow you to immerse yourself in the Vendée countryside.

The La Lutinière circular walk is approximately 3.6 km long (taking about 1 hour 15 minutes to walk). It is an easy and pleasant walk that takes you through a very varied landscape: wooded hillsides, open meadows and country lanes. This trail also takes you to the banks of the Vendée and offers the chance to see some local heritage sites, such as old bridges and a traditional wash house.

This walk is ideal for a family outing or a stroll at the end of the day; it’s not particularly challenging, whilst allowing you to enjoy the area’s rich natural surroundings.

Longer walking routes for more experienced walkers

There are other, longer routes nearby for more experienced walkers. Some of these routes take you through the Vendée valley, across wooded areas or to neighbouring towns via undulating paths.

These walks offer a more immersive experience of the local landscape, amongst the fields, hedgerows and small valleys typical of the southern Vendée.

Cycling routes offering a different way to explore the region

The Auchay-sur-Vendée area is also ideal for cycle rides. The quiet country lanes make it easy to travel between villages and hamlets.

Cyclists can therefore follow routes linking the surrounding towns and enjoy a variety of trails: farm tracks, undulating roads and sections running closer to the rivers. We love these routes for their tranquillity and sweeping landscapes.
